Nestled between the Adirondack Mountains of New York State and
the Green Mountains of Vermont, majestic Lake Champlain creates a
beneficial climate for cold hardy grapes. The singular alchemy of
lofty mountains, deep blue water, and clear northern sun, meld into
rich and distinctive wines bearing the unique character of the
region.
Lake Champlain Wines is the website and online resource center of
the Lake Champlain Grape Growers Association located in Plattsburgh,
New York. Our mission is to "promote grape growing and winemaking
in the Lake Champlain Valley with an emphasis on developing a viable
commercial wine and grape industry." Since it's inception in 2005
the LCGGA has actively promoted progressive grape growing and
winemaking, and has been a pioneer in the introduction of cold hardy
short season grape varieties in the region. In 2009 the association
reorganized and took on the DBA of Lake Champlain Wines to reflect
the explosive growth of commercial wine making in the area. Currently
there are four licensed wineries on the west shore of Lake Champlain
in New York State and a dozen on the east shore in Vermont, with
many more in the organizing stages.
We encourage you to experience for yourself our vineyards and
wineries. If you have an interest in growing grapes or making wine
either commercially or as a hobbyist, you may consider becoming an
association member. Our members benefit from educational
opportunities, information sharing, networking with grape and wine
experts, and, of course, wine tasting. We invite you to partner with
us in promoting the exciting reality of growing grapes and making
outstanding wines in the Lake Champlain region. Whether you live
next door, elsewhere in the Lake Champlain Valley, or thousands of
miles away, help us build this industry.
Lake Champlain Wines is pleased to announce a pruning workshop will take place at 2:00 PM at Hid-In-Pines Vineyard at 456 Soper Street Morrisonville, NY 12962
